Assassin's Creed II

If you are among the more observant of gamers out there, then you will have noticed a gap in Assassin’s Creed II’s memory sequences. For those who didn’t notice, you complete memory sequence 11, wake up as Desmond, but then immediately re-enter the world of Ezio years later in memory sequence 14. This leaves us with a mystery; what happened 12 and 13? Well, worry not for the mathematic skills of the guys down at Ubisoft Montreal, for they have just been planting some seeds for DLC releases.  That’s right, there are two DLCs planned for Assassin’s Creed II already, both of which are set to spring us back into the deep history of renaissance Italy.

The first helping of DLC is planned for release at the end of this month. It will be called ‘Battle for Forli’ and will see you as Ezio once again as you fight to protect the lands Forli from the historic Orsi Brothers. You will be reunited with old friends in this quest, including fellow assassin Machiavelli as well as Caterina Sforza (the woman you saved from being stranded in the river in ACII and the spouse of Forli’s ruler), and will fly the good old flying machine once again.

The Flying Machine Returns!Violent DLCs

The second of the DLCs, planned for release in the end of Febuary, sounds even more interesting and story driven. Sharing its name and theme with the famous 1987 Tom Wolfe book, ‘The Bonfire of the Vanities’ is going to be set during the time of Savonarola’s reign over Florence. Although nothing has been revealed regarding Ezio’s involvement in this, it will be based around the monk Savonarola’s dislike of the renaissance and his attempt to return to the medievil ways by burning all things contemporary from books to works of art. With the story claiming that Savonarola is in possession of a piece of Eden, it is doubtless that this will be interesting. What’s more, Ezio will also have a new move in this one: the spring jump.

Both these DLC’s promise to be action packed expansions of the fantastic story of Assassins Creed II and, with rumours saying that they will be worth a gig of memory each, should also be lengthy, full and well worth the money (the usual add-on prices). So, be sure to look out for these post-Christmas treats available at the PlayStation Network and the XBOX LIVE Marketplace at the end of this and next month.
